Cooking Tips - How Long To Defrost Different Frozen Meats

It was dinner time and there is nothing defrosted ... again. Or some surprise visitors drop and you have to feed them, but everything is frozen. What do you thaw the meat properly, safely and on time to make your meal? There is a right way and wrong way to defrost meat properly. Let's look at how long different types of defrosting frozen meat and the best methods.

Throwing frozen meat to thaw on the counter all day is not the best way to get the task done. There are bacteria already present in any raw meat surface may germinate if the meat is thawed properly. Smaller pieces of meat can thaw in the twenty minutes or so up to two hours for larger cuts.

Ideally, it is best to plan ahead when you need to defrost frozen meat. Defrost in the refrigerator is the best and safest way to defrost. However, thawing in the microwave and cold water are also viable options.

When looking at the time it takes to melt a variety of frozen meat, you must take into account the size stavke.Velika Frozen Turkey will take at least twenty-four hours for every five pounds of the original weight. Something like frozen chicken breasts (boneless) or a pound of ground beef, ground turkey, ground pork or ground chicken, will need a day to dissolve completely, as well. Cuts of red meat such as chops, steaks and roasts need to defrost the day as well.

After you have defrosted these items, you can store them safely in your refrigerator for three to five days before cooking. Any object that has not defrosted cooked meat can easily be refrozen, although you will lose some of the quality and taste of meat in it.

If you are looking for defrosting frozen meat a little faster, you can put the item (s) in cold water to thaw. This is faster than the fridge, but you must be careful about placing frozen items in the water-proof plastic bag to the air, and other bacteria that could escape. We also want to make sure that as defrosts frozen meat in cold water for no extra water is absorbed in thawing meat.

To do this properly, submerge the frozen meat in a plastic bag in cold tap water. You'll want to check the process every fifteen to twenty minutes and change the water. For something like a frozen minced meat, chicken pieces, or even seafood, these items will melt in an hour or even less. If you are looking to defrost frozen meat that ranges three to five pounds, which could take up to three hours in cold water bath. Thawing frozen whole turkey in cold water will last approximately thirty minutes per pound. If you choose this way to thaw your frozen meat, it is best to cook immediately after thawing and refreezing is not.

Finally, you can use the microwave defrost setting to thaw frozen meat. Follow the instructions on your microwave as well as different, and be sure to boil any microwave thawed meat immediately.

If you can not wait for something completely thawing, you can cook things like frozen steaks, frozen hamburger patties, and frozen chicken breasts in a very hot pan. You'll want to add more cooking time, however, take into account the lack of thawing.

Keep all this in mind next time you're hosting a dinner party or are getting ready to throw a bridal shower or family reunion. By planning ahead, your meal will make your event.
